SWEDISH ARTIST, KARIN OLDFELT, The Karin Oldfelt's "Nature" art exhibit will make its debut at the Cristobal Gabarron Foundation's Museum in Valladolid, Spain on October 5, 2010. The Foundation’s Museum, created by the Spanish artist, Cristobal Gabarron, houses Gabarron’s own sculptures as well as various collections illustrating different themes: pre-Hispanic and African cultures, religious art, paintings from the 16th Century to the 19th Century, and Picasso’s ceramic productions, www.gabarronfoundation.org. Oldfelt’s exhibit will run for two months up to December 5.
Karin Oldfelt is widely recognized in the United States and Europe for her work in watercolors which tend toward the abstract, relying heavily on nature themes in the form of clouds, flowers and landscapes. She studied oil painting in Brussels and wood cut techniques in Chile resulting in the artist illustrating Pablo Neruda’s book “Maremoto.” In the 1990’s, she worked in Havana with lithographs, woodcuts and silkscreens with a focus on various themes from Cuban nature and wildlife, www.oldfelt.se. As Richard E. Oldenburg, Director Emeritus, Museum of Modern Art so eloquently observes in appreciation of her work: “Her inspiration, as always, is Nature….in her work, technique – however impressive - is clearly subordinate to the artist’s vision it serves. That vision may be infinitely varied, but one quality is always to be found in its flowing colors, its intriguing compositions, its contrasts of density and transparency. That quality is beauty.” Oldfelt previously exhibited at the Gabarron Foundation’s Carriage House Center for the Arts in New York City in March 2009, under the auspices of the Nurture Nature Foundation. Theodore “Ted” W. Kheel, Chairman of the Gabarron Foundation, and also then of the Nurture Nature Foundation, viewed Oldfelt’s art as “….colorful expressions of nature from all angles… exciting and impressive.” “In an age of global warming, climate change and worldwide environmental crises,” Kheel said, “this upcoming exhibit is particularly poignant and should not be missed.” Karin Oldfelt also previously served as ambassador to Cuba in the 1990’s and is also co-author of a book, Plantae Ekmanianea, on the life of the Swedish botanist, Erik Leonard Ekman. -over- ![]() KARIN OLDFELT WITH THE ARTISTS CHRISTO AND JEANNE-CLAUDE THE GABARRON FOUNDATION CENTER FOR THE ARTS NEW YORK CITY MARCH 10, 2009 Contacts: In Spain: Julio Garcia Rodriquez Curator Cristobal Gabarron Museum Calle Rastrojo E 47014 Valladolid Tel: 011 34 983362490 Email:jcgarcia@gabarron.org In New York: Valerie Stephanie Anderson General Manager Nurture Nature Foundation 315 Seventh Avenue Apt.22B New York, NY10001 Tel: 646 454-9057 Email:vanderson@nurturenature.org |
